Equipment for most every Paranormal Investigator is usually the same. Here at the PVPS, we use the same as most everyone else, dealing with the most simple to the "rocket scientist" models. This is a list of items that we take with us for every investigation.

CAMERA: We use digital, but normal 35 mm cameras are just as good, the only reason why we do this is because its easier to upload to our computers and is faster then having to wait until the photos have been developed.

Voice Recorders: We have both kinds, I personally carry both an anolog(micro cassette) and a digital. They are small, sleek, and easy to put into your pocket for travel. With these we always use external microphones. The external type shields different sounds that can normally be picked up during investigations like movement.

Compass: Not too many investigators use this one. I like to keep mine handy. It is smaller then the normal EMF reader, and to see the needle spin in circles on its own is truly remarkable.

EMF Readers: These are battery powered machines used to determine electrical magnetic frequencies, hence the name EMF. Normal electrical and man made charges can be determined using this state of the art appliance.

Thermometer: We like to use the "point and shoot" thermometers. These are the IR thermometers. They determine the temperature of the surrounding area for cold spots.

Flashlights: You can never be too careful with having a flashlight on the ready.

Cell Phone: Keep one handy as a precautionary measure. You never know if something is going to happen on an investigation or to and from one.

Paper and Pens: Taking notes during an investigation is one of the most important things an investigator needs to do. Without your notes,  how are you going to determine the history of the local area or hauntings?

Batteries: We use both the rechargeable and non-rechargeable types. Always keep extra batteries handy, especially if you plan on taking a lot of photos. The best is to purchase a charger that can be plugged into a cigarette lighter, as these are perfect to charge another set while your snapping pictures with fresh ones.

Snacks: The worst thing to happen during an investigation is having to stop early because you forgot to eat or are too hungry and/or thirsty to continue.

These are the tools of our trade and may not reflect those of other Paranormal Investigators. If you have the knowledge and the resources, you can become a Paranormal Investigator yourself. Just don't sell yourself short and DO NOT listen to those groups that tell you that you need to have a degree in this field!
